I once asked a friend if he was happy and his response was “I’m fine, why do I need to be happy”. He goes further to explain to me how happiness is fleeting and doesn’t have to be a necessity especially when you are getting the desired results out of life.
I felt concern for my friend but I totally understood the perspective from which he spoke. Many times in life, we are dealt with different limiting factors and when we break off from them and start getting our desired results, happiness becomes secondary not because we discard it but because we feel we need to keep at what we are doing at the present and when things get more stabilized, we can consciously be happy.
The news is that you don’t have to live that way. You can romanticize your life. Think of how much happiness would brighten your day if you enjoyed every simple and tough task/routine in your day.
You don’t have to be less busy to enjoy random parts of your day. If it’s going to be a herculean task because of your duties then you can set up reminders to set your mind to enjoy the most hectic and minute parts of your day.
This doesn’t mean every day would be a bloom of happiness but when you take a conscious step at being happy and staying joyful, it helps reduce the weight of difficult days.
Here are some of the ways you can prioritize happiness.
- Stay Mindful
Mindfulness helps you acknowledge the blessings present in your life. It helps you stay grateful and focused on the things working. It also gives you clarity on how to pivot from things not working.
- Don’t be an Island
Have a friend or friends you can always go back to. Have people you can always share your wins with and your low moments also. Social media has made it seem like everyone is your friend, but honestly, you should have people you trust who trust you back. Have your core.
- Be Intentional about spreading happiness
You cannot give what you do not have. One of the best ways to have is having the desire to give; it propels you to work towards having. Joy is beautiful and when you can feel that bubble in your soul, it reflects and passes to others around you.
- Romanticize your life
Like I said earlier, you need to want to thoroughly enjoy every part of your life. Do you enjoy spending time with you? What are the things you can do better to make your life more enjoyable? Do what makes your soul bubble with gladness.
- Don’t take people for granted
How you treat people is a reflection of your self-worth. Be the person you want others to be to you.
- Do things you are proud of
Doing great things brings fulfillment to the soul. Be part of something bigger and greater than you.
There are definitely more ways to prioritize happiness and you can drop them in the comments if you would like to share.
