Two pivotal words that can transform your life when implemented rightly.
Mindset is the conditioning that happens in your mind. How your mind is positioned to live through situations and respond to issues.
Habits are formed through continuous repetitions. They are formed when a habit loop is created. One cannot occur without the other.
There’s a system to creating habits and it includes:
A cue, which triggers our brains to initiate a specific behavior. It is a signal to the brain that an event should occur.
For instance, when you see a pile of trash in your kitchen, it’s a cue to work towards taking them out or when you see an interesting ad for a product, it leaves a cue to look into the product further.
Cravings form the second part of the habit loop, and they are the motivational force behind every habit.
One of the keys to making habits attractive is to design your environment based on the changes you want to make.
The third part to creating habits is Response. The idea is to make your habits as easy as possible to start. Once this is set in motion, chances are you’ll find yourself on the path to positive change.
If the ending is satisfying, we have a reason to repeat the behavior – so the Reward is a very crucial part to creating good habits. Although for many long-term positive habits, change can take time to see.
One of the best ways to build a new habit is to identify a current habit you already do each day and then stack your new behavior on top. This is called habit stacking.
Habit stacking is a special form of implementation intention. Rather than pairing your new habit with a particular time and location, you pair it with a current habit or an entrypoint.
Habits are important but to create the right habits you need to have the right mindset to get you going.
Creating new habits is never easy. Doing something consistently can get monotonous, so having a growth mindset will help you remember the end goal and most of all stay consistent at it.
Building a growth Mindset is also a habit.
For everything in life, discipline is important and to build grit, you need a shift in mindset because everything starts in the mind.
You’ll know you have made a habit when you get a reminder of what you should be doing at different points in your mind.
You create habits by the choices you make daily and these choices send a message to your mind on who you see yourself as.
It takes 21 days to build a habit but, it takes one day to break it if you really aren’t disciplined about it.
I like to use the 5 second rule* to take different actions. If you can make those positive moves in your heart within the first 5 seconds of their conception, what would your life be like now?
Let your future self be much more important than the imposter and fear you feel right now because taking those positive choices and creating those seemingly difficult habits will change your life one day at a time.
Cheers to living your best life.
