This title sounds so cliche especially for this time of the year. Everyone is talking about a fresh start, starting slowly, intentionally among other things. I’ve seen some fascinating ones too about continuing and gaining momentum on what has already started.
I saw this beautiful post on Instagram about compounding and I know we use compounding a lot for money and investments but the truth is that the totality of our lives is about compounding. What you are today is a result of what you’ve consistently committed yourself to either consciously or otherwise.
Starting again isn’t a sign of failure or misalignment, it can be a response to growth and change and more often it signifies resilience and immense strength. Think about the ‘bus analogy’ – it’s best to get off at the next stop once you’ve realised you’re on the wrong bus.
With life, it might not even be that you were on the wrong bus, it could mean that the journey with that bus has ended and you need another bus to get you to where you need to go now. In life, perspective matters a lot and understanding that your path is personal to you would help you refine and decide what matters at every given point.
Starting again in whatever form, can be daunting but embracing a new start can be a powerful step towards future success. To effectively start again, a structured approach has to be taken.

First, it is important to reflect and pick the lessons from where you’re coming from. Recognise that no matter how down you are, there is always something to pick from what happened to you; how not to approach a situation, how to prioritise relationships, among others. The purpose is not to dwell on past mistakes but to inform future decisions.
Then, it is important to set a clear vision. Remember how I said with life, everyone’s path is really personal. Well, this comes to play here as you have to define what starting again means to you.
You need to be inspired by others but you need to play to your own purpose and path. Define what success would mean to you on this new path, establish milestones so you have a lot to look forward to by breaking down your goals into smaller and manageable tasks.
One thing we forget to do most times, is the need to create a system(s) through which our goals and the life we desire or are working towards can easily function. It’s important to have systems and structures in place that can keep you accountable, inspire you and strengthen you when you begin to have doubts or you start reneging on your plans.
The most difficult kind of discipline is self discipline as well as self leadership. It is easier to control others to do what we want and even easier for us to be controlled by others to do what they want but when it comes to doing what we want for ourselves it becomes a struggle.
Starting again is an opportunity for reinvention. It is a commitment to personal growth, fueled by past experience and guided by a clear vision for the future.
Not sure when to start again?
Now is the best time.
I’m rooting for you.
Stay winning.
