On Tribal Stereotypes…

People profile others and make generalizations tending to tribal inclinations among other things.

I was asking a friend about his state of origin and he kept insisting that he is Nigerian (lol). When I further probed, I discovered he didn’t want any profiling to come from the answers he could have provided; he goes further to bear names with no exact tribal affiliations in Nigeria. This seems really extreme, I wonder what he’s hiding (lol).

In every nation of the world, people are profiled based on different criteria but the most common is racial stereotypes. When you see someone look a particular type of way, you tend to expect they are from a particular country or a region, you might even go further to align names to their faces.

This can be bad when it is used as a limiting factor or as an instrument of nepotism.

The world is diverse with varying cultures and tribal inclinations. Upholding your heritage and culture are important in finding and expressing your true self. You can learn about the origin of some of the traits you exhibit and know if you need to work better at amplifying them or eradicating them from your life.

Do you appreciate cultural differences or use it as a tool to create conflict?

This is a question that when answered truthfully will lead to effective nation building. No one culture is superior to another.

All things being equal, we are all humans first and that should be the basis upon which cultural and tribal conversations should stem from.
