Network Service – Is it a possibility to be shut down?
Remembering Twitter ban by the government in Nigeria is one that keeps on resonating in my mind at this present moment in which I write this.
The action of the government without due cause and process of implementation is one that infringed on the freedom of expression of the people especially as it caused no exact harm to the government and people of Nigeria.
That being said, think about if the government shuts down Internet service.
“Wow, that would be tumultuous, that is an impossibility, it can never happen” amongst other things are the thoughts that would have flowed through my mind before now.
Right now, I’ve been in a network service shut down for over 18 hours and there wasn’t a concrete news and awareness to inform people that the service providers would be shut down for security reasons.
All services just blacked out without cause.
Well, this is Nigeria and I’m definitely not in the West or East but if this can happen in the North (which is mostly the place for experimentation of ideas), think about what’s coming.
This isn’t just Internet shutdown, this is network service providers being shut down meaning that if you aren’t close to those that care about you, they would be scared and worried and you can’t even help the situation as you can’t put a call through or send a message.
This is 2021 before someone thinks it happened in the 90s and for better emphasis, the last month of the penultimate quarter of the year.
Nigeria, which way now?
E go be o…..
God bless Nigeria.
Ps. Notifications were sent out later that it was done on deliberation by the Governors to prevent the operations of bandits in states like Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna among others…
