Tips for maximising your fasting period.

The Happy New Year Euphoria is not quite much in the air any longer but it’s still January hence, Happy 2022.

I’ve been writing more on my other blog so it’s been a little while here and since it’s a new year which is cliche for resolutions, I’m back to being here.

It’s January and everyone or most believers are fasting; most are doing this personally while others are doing this based on the church they attend. A lot of denominations (churches) I know are fasting, e.g Harvesters, CCI, Foursquare, RCCG and a whole others.

This post isn’t about churches now, so don’t go cold on me just yet. I attend one of these churches I listed above and yes, I’m fasting too and while fasting I’ve been able to learn some tips that could be timely for you too.

Here goes;
– Fasting should not be done in Isolation
Great that you are fasting but as you are fasting based on your shepherd’s instructions, do not do this in isolation. Have a group you are fasting with or better still a friend; this isn’t so that you won’t eat before it’s time to break but so that you can truly deny yourself of those things that give you pleasure and focus more on God.

– Fasting without prayer is a red flag
It is great to fast but the sole purpose of the fast is so your mind can be sharpened better to hearing and receiving from God. Oh no, fasting doesn’t change God, it changes you and it’s in the place of prayer you can actually utilise the action of fasting. It can get tiring, but even if it’s 5 minutes after the fast please pray. It isn’t intermittent fast.

-Fasting is a Spiritual Exercise
It shouldn’t be taken light of because you might lose the essence. In this period of fasting, you might get offended unusually and trust me you are not alone. Simple statements, normal sarcasm might get to you. Do not feel depressed about this but instead take it as an opportunity to build yourself up much more and in no wise should this hinder you from keeping up with the fast.

– Do not stay idle
As much as you can, get something doing. If you aren’t on a job, get on the word, pray and do other spiritual exercises that can keep you occupied.

– Create Expectations
The right posture for prayer is expectation and even as you wait in this period, it is trite that you open your heart to receiving those things you have asked.

– Trust God’s timing
Trust that what God has told you will come to pass and do not let this hold you back from keeping up with the fast. In the case it feels like heaps of disappointments, it’s always a good time to hold on much more to God.

These are some of the things I’ve learned through my fasting period. I hope you gain insight from them and they spur you to better light and understanding.

Thank you for reading.
